Poetry By Ken in Rainbow Colors

Just we two on our first Thanksgiving
Found the joy in our meager living,
We laughed sitting on the bare floor
With a cold sandwich and little more.

Now in our home at the end of the lane
I wish hopefully for you in vain
For the first time this holiday you are gone
And I'll be in a crowded room alone.

Your mother and father arrive tomorrow
From them some memories I'll borrow,
I'll see you through their eyes of love
As fond memories are spoken of.

I wish you happy Thanksgiving sweetheart
And though miles keep us apart
I will hold you in dreams as I always do
Treasuring each thought of you.

Thanksgiving this year will be a lonely day
For holidays are just days with you away,
I'll wear a happy face for everyone to see
But I'll be as lonely as alone can be.

Through the day I'll show no sad emotion
But my joy lies in your loving devotion,
I will smile as we gather around the table,
I will hold back the tears if I am able.

I'm grateful for many things old and new
But above all else I'm thankful for you,
You have blessed my life in so many ways
And I'll hug you in a few more days.

So to you sweetheart from one who's lonely
You are now and forever my one and only,
Though you are there and I'm waiting here
In my heart and mind you are very near.
