Moonbeams across frozen snow
Highlight ice crystals to glow,
Shimmering as tiny clusters of gems
Casting white sparks from them.
Wolves are howling at the sky
Calling to the hunt pack nearby,
Trees crackle under their icy load,
Freezing winds begin to blow.
Mysterious noises fill the night,
Shadows display from firelight
Across my cabin walls they race
Cast from the roaring fireplace.
Winters wildness is in full bloom,
One storm then another soon.
Moans and groans from the north wind
Rattle my windows again and again.
Like the geese I wish I'd flown South
As tiny puffs of fog exhale my mouth.
Dreary cabin fever is setting in,
Outside a furious new storm begins.
Creeping chills grow from toes to nose,
Cracks in the floor let in drafts to blow.
This is my last winter in this wilderness place
Where nature rages against human race.
