Hold Back The Night
All the lights are on
Though she is alone,
Dark is not her friend
The loneliness sets in.
Wall shadows lie as ghost,
Nights she misses him most,
Lights flicker from the wind
Shadows play to mock again.
In the corner in her chair
His empty beside her there,
She brushes her graying hair,
Into emptiness she stares.
Laying the brush aside
She softly cried,
No one will hear her cry,
No one will ask why.
The clock chimes midnight
She begins turning off lights
Except the lamp by her bed
Where once he lay his head.
Winter nights seem longer
The bedroom so much colder,
Where once a warm embrace
Is a cold lonely place.
She stares out into darkness
Dreading the stark loneliness,
Her mind wanders to the hill
Where he waits forever stilled.
Winter wind is howling,
She lies in bed crying,
Whispering his name to the dark
With each beat of a broken heart.
