Drab Gray Day

The day is shades of gray
As I look in every way,
It mirrors my sulky mood
While I sit here and brood.

Rain and snow coming down
Deepens lines in my frown,
My slump slowly settles in
Another cold winter begins.

Homebound and bored to tears,
My mind-set switches gears
From frolicking in summer sun
To a dreary winter that's begun.

I sit at the window and ponder
What's going on way yonder,
South where it's summer all year
While I'm mired in icky wet here.

I pine to go where wind don't blow
Sideways bearing sleet or snow,
The beautiful North Country is nice
But I weary of winter's ice.

Maybe next year, if I'm still here
I'll go to where the sun sears,
I'll point my feet toward the South
To escape winters icy mouth.

Short days of shadowy gray
Are not meant for frolic or play,
Put me in sun to make me smile,
Drab days aren't worthwhile.
