Poetry By Ken in Rainbow Colors

I was awoken with a start by the pounding of my heart,
Did something or someone brush me lightly then depart?
The feeling of a chilling presence it seemed was dreamed,
Then lumbering footsteps and the unknown screamed.

I sprang to my feet with drumming heartbeat in my ears
And stood listening to footsteps on wood filled with fears,
With pulse racing I listened to heavy pacing upstairs,
That bloodcurdling scream undreamed was theirs.

The coldness in the room loomed over me as a shroud
Though summer each murmur came as a frosty cloud,
Every breath into the room seemed an omen of doom,
Panting white puffs enhanced the cover of gloom.

With growing foreboding I went tiptoeing to the stairwell
And called out to whatever stalker came calling from Hell,
"Who are you who shrieks loud enough to wake the dead?"
"What torment compels you spread your unwanted dread?"

The footsteps ceased and my fearfulness increased to high,
The sound of silence was deafening as a minute ticked by,
I stood shivering at the foot of the stairs by fear consumed
And suddenly with a moan the plodding footsteps resumed.

I wanted to bound up the dark stairs but was spellbound,
Enough bravery to face my tormentor could not be found,
A weapon to drive out the evil mischief came to my mind
But is useless against a plodder if it's the unhuman kind.

I stood trembling and pale with cold sweat wetting my brow
And wasted watery threats at the footsteps grown louder now,
Suddenly a burst of foul reeking air passed fast through me
The violence spun me but a wispy shadow was all I could see.

I was awoken with a start by the pounding of my heart,
Did something or someone brush me lightly then depart?
The feeling of a chilling presence it seemed was dreamed,
Then lumbering footsteps and the unknown screamed.
